π History & Origin
The Anatolian Shepherd is an ancient breed that has been reared for thousands of years as a livestock guardian dog in the Anatolian plateau of Turkey. They evolved to possess robust physicality and an independent nature to protect flocks from predators like wolves and bears in harsh environments. They began to gain global recognition after being introduced to the United States in the 1970s.

A very large and majestic breed, averaging 71-81 cm in height and 40-68 kg in weight. They possess a powerful, muscular build with a broad, strong head and dropped ears. They have a short to medium-length double coat, with various colors like cream, white, and sesame, often featuring a black mask on the face.

The Anatolian Shepherd, as a natural livestock guardian, possesses independent and powerful protective instincts. They are extremely loyal and affectionate towards their families but are highly wary and defensive towards strangers or external threats.
