π History & Origin
Bred for centuries in the West Highlands of Scotland to hunt vermin like foxes, badgers, and otters. Originally, they had brown or dark coats like other terriers, but after realizing white puppies were less likely to be mistaken for prey during hunts, breeders intentionally selected and bred for the white coat, leading to the modern Westie.
