Hirokazu Kore-eda

"In an era where the form of family is becoming increasingly diverse, I wanted to show how important love and bonds that blossom in non-blood relationships are. Moving beyond the framework of 'normal family' as defined by society, I wanted to question the true meaning of family through the portrayal of those who embrace and live with each other. My films are always a process of asking the question, 'What does it mean to be human?' I wanted to explore the point where the boundaries between good and evil, right and wrong, become ambiguous in the relationships between parents who abandon children, brokers who take children, and people who desire those children. Ultimately, I believe all humans are imperfect, and the effort to understand each other within that imperfection is crucial. I wanted to show that truth is not singular and can vary depending on the viewer's perspective."
