π History & Origin
Originating in Germany in the 17th century, the Affenpinscher was bred to rid kitchens and stables of rodents. They are considered ancestors to many other European wire-haired terrier breeds, including the Miniature Schnauzer and Brussels Griffon.
πͺ Physical Features
Small and sturdy, with a shaggy, wiry coat and a distinctive 'monkey-like' face. They feature prominent eyebrows and a beard, contributing to their unique expression, and have a square build.
π§ Deep Personality
Fearless, curious, and highly entertaining. Can be stubborn and mischievous. Devoted to their owners but can be dominant with other dogs and wary of strangers, embodying a true terrier spirit.
π₯ Health & Lifespan
Can be prone to patellar luxation, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, heart murmurs, and respiratory issues (brachycephalic). Lifespan is typically 12-15 years. Regular vet check-ups and a balanced diet are key.
π Training & Activities
Intelligent but can be headstrong. Early socialization and consistent positive reinforcement are essential. House-training can take time. Requires daily moderate walks and mental stimulation.
π Living Conditions
Good for apartment living, but needs regular walks and playtime. Best with older, respectful children due to their small size and terrier temperament. Can be dominant with other dogs, so careful introductions are needed.
𧬠MBTI Match
