π History & Origin
The Beauceron is a French herding dog with a long history, believed to have existed since the Renaissance. Named after the Beauce region of France, they were used to herd cattle and sheep and protect livestock. Officially recognized in the late 19th century, they served various roles as military dogs during World War I, including messenger, mine detection, and tracking dogs, earning recognition for their bravery and intelligence. They are known as the 'Guard Dog of the French Plains'.
