The Borzoi was developed in 17th-century Russia for hunting wolves. Also known as the 'Russian Wolfhound', they were highly popular among the Russian aristocracy. Their name 'Borzoi' means 'fast' in Russian. They were bred from European Greyhounds and native Russian dogs to achieve their current elegant and swift form.
