The Chesapeake Bay Retriever originated in the early 19th century in the Chesapeake Bay region of Maryland, USA. They were specifically bred to retrieve numerous waterfowl in harsh, icy conditions. Legend has it that two Newfoundland puppies rescued from a wrecked English ship in 1807 were the foundation of this breed. They boast exceptional swimming abilities, endurance, and a robust spirit.
