πŸ“œ History & Origin

The Puli is an ancient Hungarian herding dog, tracing back over a thousand years. Believed to have originated in Asia and brought to Hungary by the Magyars. Used to herd sheep and guard livestock, its corded coat provided protection from weather and predators.

πŸ’ͺ Physical Features

A medium-sized dog with a distinctive dense, corded coat (like dreadlocks). Coat colors include black, rusty black, apricot, and white. Underneath the coat is a powerful, agile build. Its tail curls over its back.

🧠 Deep Personality

Highly intelligent, independent, and strong-willed. Can be very playful and comical with family, but suspicious of strangers, making it an excellent watchdog. Needs early and extensive socialization.

πŸ₯ Health & Lifespan

Generally a healthy breed. Prone to hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), patellar luxation, and occasionally bloat. Average lifespan is 10-15 years.

πŸƒ Training & Activities

Very intelligent and eager to learn, but also independent and can be stubborn. Requires firm, consistent, positive reinforcement training from an early age. Benefits from dog sports like agility, herding trials, and obedience. Needs daily vigorous exercise.

🏠 Living Conditions

Best suited for active families who understand the needs of a herding breed. Can adapt to apartment living if given sufficient exercise and mental stimulation, but a yard is beneficial. The coat requires significant grooming.

🧬 MBTI Match

Like an ISTJ among humans, responsible, practical, duty-bound, observant, and sometimes reserved, but fiercely protective of their 'flock'.
