The Pungsan Dog is a native Korean breed originating from Pungsan County, Hamgyong Province (now Kimhyonggwon County, Ryanggang Province) in North Korea. Bred in rugged mountainous terrain to hunt large animals like wild boars and tigers, it boasts exceptional bravery and strength. Designated as North Korea's national dog, it also holds political symbolism, having been exchanged as gifts during inter-Korean summits. After the Korean War, it was introduced to South Korea and is now protected as a natural monument.
