Lore & Heritage
In Greek mythology, when Phaethon fell from the Sun chariot into the river Eridanos, his mourning sisters—the Heliades—turned into poplar trees whose weeping tears solidified into golden amber. Roman historian Pliny noted a tiny amber figurine was worth more than an able-bodied slave. Emperor Nero adorned gladiator nets with amber, and Peter the Great's gilded "Amber Room" was celebrated as the Eighth Wonder of the World.
