Lore & Heritage
Spinel holds the most dramatic heritage in gemology. The "Black Prince's Ruby", mounted on the British Imperial State Crown and worn by Henry V at the Battle of Agincourt, is actually a 170-carat crimson spinel. Similarly, the 352-carat "Timur Ruby" inscribed with Mughal emperor lineages is a breathtaking spinel. Until modern mineralogy distinguished it from corundum in the late 18th century, it was the secret star of world thrones.
