Lore & Heritage
In the late 18th century, German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth described this shimmering lilac mineral, naming it from the Greek "lepidos" (scale). Its landmark moment in the history of science occurred in 1817, when Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson discovered the elemental metal lithium while analyzing a specimen of petalite and lepidolite. In metaphysical folklore, it has long been honored as the "Stone of Transition," soothing the turbulent growing pains of major life metamorphoses and releasing unhealthy codependent attachments.
