Lore & Heritage
In 1967, British gemologist Campbell Bridges discovered vivid green crystals in Tanzania, later tracing the deposit into Kenya near Tsavo National Park. To protect himself from rogue lions and poisonous snakes, Bridges famously lived in a treehouse above the mine. In 1974, Henry B. Platt, president of Tiffany & Co., fell in love with its electric green color and named it "Tsavorite" in honor of the Tsavo wilderness, launching it worldwide to critical acclaim.
