Lore & Heritage
The name Onyx derives from the Greek for "fingernail" or "claw." Myth tells that while Venus lay sleeping beside the Indus River, Cupid clipped her divine fingernails with an arrow. As the clippings fell to Earth, the Fates transformed them into onyx so no part of a celestial goddess could ever perish. Roman patricians prized onyx for intaglio signet rings because hot sealing wax never adhered to its silky surface.
