Origins & History: French Alpine Discovery of the Axe Crystals
Axinite was first unearthed in the late 18th century within the treacherous alpine valleys of Le Bourg d’Oisans in the French Alps. Alpine mountaineers marveled at its razor-sharp crystal terminations, comparing them to miniature stone axes embedded in the schist rock. In 1797, French mineralogist Jean-Godolin Delisle officially named it Axinite. Eastern mineral enthusiasts historically carried polished axinite stones as disciplinary catalysts to sever attachments to lethargy and execute resolve.
